ROBERT CONSTABLE — Vice President
I discovered Pickleball during COVID at our gym when I couldn’t play squash and immediately fell in love with the game. I spent quite a while trying to find good open play. Unfortunately, the Boulder options seemed very limited, so I ended up playing mostly in Longmont and Broomfield. It wasn’t until the summer of 2022 that I discovered open play at the Rec centers. Shortly after that BOCO Pickleball was formed. The BOCO Pickleball club seemed to me to be the missing ingredient for increasing awareness of Pickleball options in Boulder and increasing the number of options available. I have been helping out with instructing beginners and, of course, shoveling, and anything to increase the time we can play. I am passionate about playing and making sure that Pickleball thrives in Boulder and want to help wherever I can to ensure the success of BOCO Pickleball, because I see it as the key to Pickleball thriving in Boulder.
I recently retired from 37 years in IBM where I was in Product Management responsible for identifying market requirements for products then assembling the teams across organizations (marketing, development, finance) to deliver the products. This provided me with a strong background in IT, organizing, marketing and financial budgeting and analysis.
If I had to narrow down what I want to see the Club accomplish to one item, it would be getting a dedicated Pickleball facility in Boulder.
PETER NEWMAN — director/treasurer
Hello, everyone! My name is Peter Newman, and I am thrilled to be a board member of the BOCO Pickleball Club. My journey into the world of pickleball began in 2021 when my wife and I moved to Boulder, Colorado, from the stunning Gold Coast in Australia.
Pickleball quickly became a passion for me as I immersed myself in the vibrant pickleball community here in Boulder. The thrill and excitement of the sport, coupled with the wonderful camaraderie among players, made it an easy decision for me to get involved on a deeper level.
Aside from my love for pickleball, I am a proud family man. My wife and I are blessed with three amazing children. Our eldest daughter is pursuing her dreams at UVA law school, while our second daughter is making her mark at Wake Forest University. And let's not forget our talented son, who is currently attending Monarch High School.
As a board member, my primary focus is on fostering a strong sense of community within the BOCO Pickleball Club. I want to create an inclusive and supportive environment where all members, regardless of skill level, can come together and enjoy this fantastic sport. Whether you're a seasoned player or new to pickleball, I am here to support and encourage you every step of the way.
When I'm not on the pickleball court or fulfilling my responsibilities as a board member, you can often find me exploring the beautiful landscapes of Boulder or spending time with friends and family. I am genuinely honored to be a part of the BOCO Pickleball Club family.
So, if you have a love for pickleball or simply want to try out this exciting sport, I invite you to join us on the courts. Let's create lasting memories, share laughter, and embrace the spirit of pickleball together!
