Cliff Moss FOUNDER

I am a co-founder and current President of the BOCO Pickleball Club. I have been a resident of Boulder a little over 50 years. It has been pleasurable as well as personally rewarding to see the progress that the Club has made since inception. I continue to have goals I would like the club to achieve in the next year and I am looking forward to being a part of the team that helps reach those goals.

I have worked in the computer industry for my entire career with companies like IBM, Storage Tech and Siemens. During that period I have worked in many US cities as well as in Europe and Asia but I’ve always maintained a home in Boulder. I believe I have substantial IT, organizational, and financial skills as a result of upper level positions in those companies.

The vision I have is a pickleball complex with dedicated and lighted courts. This complex would include seating, water, shade and restrooms. While this vision may appear ambitious, it has been accomplished in smaller Colorado cities than Boulder. Boulder continues to be one of the few cities its size without a single dedicated pickleball court. The North and South Rec Center courts have been a blessing for us, but they are still shared by drop-in tennis players, for profit tennis instruction and the Boulder School District. They lack water, shade and often restrooms.

A complex of 16 dedicated courts, or more, fits our style of play. A socially inviting mix of skilled based open play and reserved courts. It also fits the size required for holding events such as ladders, tournaments and traveling instructional camps. All capable of providing the city with revenue opportunities.

I understand the resource constraints of the city. The proposal is not to build such a complex immediately but to build 4 to 8 courts in a location that has the land available for a minimum of 16 courts as financial and other limited resource requirements allow.

I am very excited to join the BOCO Pickleball Club’s Board of Directors.  I was first introduced to the sport during COVID when I was trying to find a way to be outdoors, stay active and socialize with alike people.  It only took a short time to get hooked on the sport and now it’s part of my weekly (and sometimes daily) activities. I enjoy being part of this Pickleball community.

I retired 2 1/2 years ago and have been a resident of Boulder for over 45 years. My professional background was assisting individuals in furthering their careers and assisting employers and industry find skilled candidates for their jobs.  I was the Director of the Colorado Urban Workforce Alliance, a multi-regional workforce alliance of ten workforce areas which promoted industry led sector initiatives, regional collaborations, apprenticeship programs and best practices within the public workforce system.  I wrote and oversaw large federal and state grants with agencies including the US Department of Labor and the Social Security Administration.  I supported and participated on many national, state and local boards and recognized the important role that they play.

I have always given back to the community through my work.  Once I retired, I wanted to give back to the Boulder Community and started volunteering one day a week to the Victims Witness Unit with the Boulder District Attorney’s office.  I have been doing this for 2 1/2 years and find it very rewarding to continue to support individuals needing assistance with the legal system during very difficult times.  I have been involved with the BOCO Pickleball Club since its inception and have participated in many of their social events, fundraising activities and clinics.  I want to continue to support the Pickleball community through my work on the Board.  I believe in the Club’s mission and objectives and hope to continue the great work already done by the Board, especially in working with the city in developing designated courts and expanding exposure of the sport to all levels of play and ages

bill leblanc - director

In 2020, I had finished playing basketball at the YMCA in Boulder and saw a bunch of people playing a racket sport in the gym. I walked in and talked to a guy, and he gave me a paddle and we played. It was pretty fun…easy to start. One week later, the world shut down from Covid. Fast forward 3 years, and I signed up for a pickleball class at the rec center, and it was taught by Boulder Pickleball’s Adam Johnson. After that class, a small group of us started playing together regularly and the rest is history. I’ve shifted from tennis and volleyball to pickleball…it’s more accessible, fun, and social.

Boulder is certainly a bit behind other comparable cities in availability of dedicated courts, so I love that the Club has done a lot of work to solve that problem. I’ve worked with the City on a number of projects over the years, and things can be slow, but citizens DO have influence at the local level.

In my real life, my job has been working with utilities and governments to help their consumers save energy or get renewable power. My latest endeavors focus on accelerating the market for electric vehicles in Colorado and nationally. If you notice the EV license plate around town, with the lightning bolt and sun…I developed that!

Another tidbit; during my mid-life crisis, I took up stand-up comedy. I did that for about 4 years and loved it. Maybe we can arrange for a pickleball comedy night sometime.

steven sellars director/treasurer

My first day of pickleball was on Labor Day of 2021 and like many of you, I was instantly hooked.  In my youth I played table tennis, racquetball, and a little bit of tennis. Like many pickleball converts, I find it to be the most enjoyable sport I’ve ever played.

I grew up on Cape Cod and moved to Colorado in 1982 after graduating college.  After forty years as a private Land Surveyor and co-owner of Flagstaff Surveying, I recently retired.  I am married to Jill and together, we have four children and two amazing grandchildren.

I enjoy athletics and over the years have participated primarily in martial arts and long distance running.  I hold training certifications in each and have extensive teaching/coaching experience in both disciplines.  In the past year, I have expanded my love for teaching as a volunteer coach for BOCO Pickleball.

I look forward to working as a Board member for BOCO to further promote, expand and improve club activities and events for members.

ZACH MAIORCA - VICE PRESIDENT

in 2021, I tore my Achilles and I knew that getting back in basketball and skiing would take some time. I stumbled upon Pickleball that Fall and was immediately hooked. I've been involved for three years now and continue to try and play multiple times a week. My two favorite things about the game are how well the game scales to different skill levels - allowing people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the game - and the great community that makes Zthe PB world here in the Front Range. The game continues to grow faster than ever and I'd like to continue to push for more dedicated courts here in Boulder so we can eventually be a hub for local tournaments.

My professional experience varies quite a bit and includes tech startups, consulting, real estate development and management, to small business ownership. My most recent venture is a FedEx delivery business based out of Parker, Colorado where we've built a fantastic team that delivered over 3 million packages last year!  I've been on multiple community and non-profit boards and love being able to help give back to interests and projects that I'm passionate about.

My wife Kerry is also a great player and an excellent PB partner for when we play mixed games. Our three kids are still learning the game and haven't quite caught the bug yet but we're working on it!
